All Eyes on Balen!

It looks like the plains are back to normal and we have some peace for now in the Terai region. For a week, our old school media and the opposition wallahs were up in arms against this government for not showing much concern for the fire burning in Terai.

We have had dozens of communal clashes in the Terai region in the past two decades. We have had our security personnel kill protesters during the Madesh movement and even in other protest programs across the country in the past two decades. But the media did not side with the protesters then and, in some ways, silently supported the killings of protesters and still thinks killing school children is okay.

Our old guards demanded the resignation of the Home Minister and the PM as they do every week. I guess the government is still standing, and the same old chors of the past are surprised and not happy that the fire did not burn long enough or engulf the whole country, because then they would have hoped for some massive unrest.

But still, how can you topple the government voted into power by the majority of the folks? If only the whole country rises and things go out of hand and our security personnel resort to the same old formula of firing live ammunition and killing some of us! But I guess this government has managed to manage each crisis so far, and the old guards are still fuming and more worried that most of us still blame them for all the mess in this country!

Harka Sampang still thinks that he should be the PM! Can somebody tell this lunatic that he doesn't even have enough seats in the House to do much except carry out his childish antics and thinks the whole country is behind him? Harka still doesn't realize he's lost most of us who thought he was a good person. Now, most of us know that he just wants to brew some hate and take us all back to the Stone Age with his own 'Harka-Path'.

Mahesh Basnet, our KP Ba's non-biological son who once dreamt of being the Home Minister, thinks the Gen Z massacre and the recent shootings in Terai are the same and therefore, the Home Minister and the PM should resign and be in prison instead.

The communal clashes in the Terai region are primarily religious conflicts. The Gen Z protest was about corruption, transparency, and accountability, but yes, we do agree that it all started with the social media ban; but school kids were shot in the head for no reason, and the IGP and senior commanders in the Valley, the then CDO and Home Minister, and even KP Ba Ba Black Sheep, have still not been held accountable.

I think Terai is still more of a Wild Wild West, and we all know that most of the Ward chairpersons and Mayors there belong to the old parties, and the majority of them seem to be local mundrey gundas who do add fuel to the fire during such conflicts for their own personal and political gain. The old parties sell the tickets to those with bags of cash, guns, and muscles, and that is primarily the reason why Terai is still ruled by thugs!

Some of us blame the current government for all the mess in Terai now. Well, maybe we need to ask the old guards, those who led the governments of the past two decades, what they did to prevent such clashes then? We do not want to see our Terai region turn into another Gujarat when Desi Santa Claus was the Chief Minister then. We cannot allow any ethnic or religious group to attack another and kill, rape, and murder each other.

So, it's time to enact strong laws against communal conflicts. I think the first step would be to ban all loud music, be it religious or recreational, after 8 pm. Now, all the rodighar and dance bars and club owners will be doing their own andolan if that happens, but we do have the local laws that clearly state that all venues blaring loud music during late evenings should have a soundproof environment and not disturb the public.

But it seems that our police wallahs still get the cut and our CDOs seem to be snoring by 10 pm because these late-night venues continue to blare loud music and disturb our neighborhoods. Maybe it's time to have zoning laws and shift all our late-night venues a little farther away from each of our cities so that the police can manage it better and the public can spend more and run around like zombies at 4 am without disturbing the rest of us!

I think this government is facing all kinds of criticisms, be it taxes on education and healthcare or the recent communal clashes and stock market crashes. Yes, we need to criticize those in power if they do wrong, but these critics do not talk about the misuse of power and wholesale corruption in the past two decades, which has contributed to all the mess we are now witnessing today.
