Let us all unite against theanti-Hindu forces in Nepal. CAN WE DO IT?

Let us spread message against what is happening to Nepal.
WE WANT IT TO REMAIN A HINDU STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can we unite?
This will be the real challenge.
Look at how Indian medicos/engineers are uniting against job reservation.

Well, OUR RELIGION,HINDUISM THE ODLEST RELIGION IS BEING REMOVED FROM NEPAL. AND NO ONE IS BOTHERED? SICKENING.

Do you know what troubles start if this happens.
PLEASE ALL WAKE_UP AND SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO THE CORRUPT & CROOK POLITICIANS IN NEPAL.

WE WANT NEPAL TO REMAIN HINDU!!!!!!!!!!

SPEAK EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell is the matter with you? It's for the good man, it's all for the good. Hinduism has been imposed on various ethnic groups in Nepal(like Magars for example, many of whom are supposedly "Hindus"), and were they given the choices, most of them would decide not to be Hindus, because Hinduism is discriminatory, IPSO FACTO. The caste system, wife burning, dowry, not to mention that Hinduism is patrilineal, which as the term implies is totally sexist!

"Well, OUR RELIGION,HINDUISM THE ODLEST RELIGION IS BEING REMOVED FROM NEPAL".

Nepal is no more a "Hindu kingdom" doesn't mean that the religion has been removed.... It was, is and will always be there as a significant part of our lives and No proclamation or declaration is gonna change that....

"Do you know what troubles start if this happens".
I honestly don't know... It may come with few disadvantages, but I believe it will give every group, ethnicity and religion a sense of belongingness and that's more than what we can ask for at the moment...

"WE WANT NEPAL TO REMAIN HINDU"
A country does not have a religion, only people do.. A country is the mother who loves all her children EQUALLY... So no group of people can claim to call a country just theirs...

Having said all that, I must admit that I am indifferent to what Nepal is called... I don't think calling Nepal a secular state really makes any difference in my personal life as far as my religion and my values are concerned... However, I know I am not strong and liberal enough to see cows being slaughtered in the streets of Nepal... I'm just not ready for that... I hope that day doesn't ever come :(

They say ignorance is bliss.. Exactly how???

Knt said, "The caste system, wife burning, dowry, not to mention that Hinduism is patrilineal, which as the term implies is totally sexist"!

What wife burning system are you talking about?? Is it mentioned in any Vedas or holy scriptures that your wife be burnt?? NO right? So please don't bring up the non-existent tradition just to make fun of someone's religion.... And if you really wanna talk about sexism, why just start and end at Hinduism?? Don't you think it existed and still exists everywhere-in every culture and every part of the world... Talking about the burning issue, have you forgotten the so called witch burning tradition that once prevailed in the United States????

I agree Caste system is a derogatory practice, but it was started as a system of labor division and later on was badly exploited.....Again, it's not the religion's fault that its followers misinterpreted its words for their personal advantages...

Again, Dowry is not a part of the religion... It's just a practice, a tradition and now people are slowly changing their perceptions towards the practice...

If you really hate something, just say that you hate it.. You don't really need to weave some nasty and half baked assumptions in your mind for the reasoning....

I am glad that Nepal is not using only the hindu nation of the world. It divides the people. Democracy means free religion too. I guess the people are free to choose the religion too. Other religion's people feel they belong to Nepal too. I think using the word Hindu religion suppress the other religions. Nowhere in the workd use either Christin country nor muslim country.

Mokshya,
It doesn't matter what's written in those ancient books, the real thing is it's being interpretedand practised by your own people with "The caste system, wife burning, dowry". It reflection of of the old belief that's distorted now. Tell me, "The caste system, wife burning, dowry" is NOT at all practised. KNT didn't invent that.

people were free to choose any religion even before this decision has been made. This decision i think is somethign that is uncalled for.

Nobody even bothered about this issue in nepal. So why do politicians have to bring this up. look at india . it is secular country. but how many people have lost life in the riot.

we have heard so often in newspapers maoist slaugthering cows and eating beef to celebrate. It seems like this is another decision made by govenment to cater maoist.

"What wife burning system are you talking about?? Is it mentioned in any Vedas or holy scriptures that your wife be burnt"

I am talking about Sati of course, which, while it may not have been mentioned in any of the holy scriptures, has been an integral part of Hinduism for quite some time. Your rejoinder may be that it is not practiced any more in South Asia, but if you read the news, there still are a smattering of cases where this practice still goes on. You might want to check out a relatively new, movie out called Water, which explores the treatment of Hindu women in post-colonial India. Why is wife burning not a practice among Muslims? How about among Christians? Turning a blind eye on all the problems that Hinduism has is a bit disingenuous, not to mention, specious. Just because Sati/wife-burning is abolished does not mean that the practice has been completely wiped out, which it has not.

"Talking about the burning issue, have you forgotten the so called witch burning tradition that once prevailed in the United States???? "

America is not a Christian nation, so your point is moot. The constitution grants anyone and everyone the right to practice whatever religion he/she wants to practice, be it scientology or the wiccan religion. I would certainly be shouting on the top of my lungs if they declared America a Christian country.

"I agree Caste system is a derogatory practice, but it was started as a system of labor division and later on was badly exploited"

The caste system is unique to Hinduism. That's one reason why we are having a difficult time decastifying Nepal(and India). China had it's own version of the "caste system", but it was not tied to the religions they practiced in any shape or form. The Manusmriti specifically codifies the caste system. It is definitely a Hindu book.

"Again, Dowry is not a part of the religion... It's just a practice, a tradition and now people are slowly changing their perceptions towards the practice... "

This actually may be true. I think we have had more success weeding out the vestiges of this daijo system--at least that is my impression.

"Tell me, "The caste system, wife burning, dowry" is NOT at all practised".

Vhoote
I'm telling you, wife burning is NOT al all practised... Even if it was, then you couldn't blame the religion... People and the society should have been blamed instead...

Dowry is practiced, but NOT BECAUSE IT'S A RELGION.. let's not confuse religion with tradition here.. Besides, it's not just practised by Hindus, many ethnic tribes in Nepal practise it in different forms...

Now talking about the caste system, it was indeed started as a part of Hinduism, but not with an intention to humiliate or breed hatred amongst each other like it's doing now... It was purely based on the profession that people chose....

Again, I'm not supporting either of the activities, i'm just saying the things as they were.....

"Just because Sati/wife-burning is abolished does not mean that the practice has been completely wiped out, which it has not".

Do you have a source to back up that claim???? I would love to know about it... Nothing personal hai....

"America is not a Christian nation, so your point is moot".

America may not be a christian nation, but those who did were christians... So your point is????

"The caste system is unique to Hinduism".
When did I say it was not a part of the religion??? All i'm saying is, the system was purely based on profession.. Later on, some influential groups exploited it...

"Do you have a source to back up that claim???? "
Sure:

"PATNA: An old woman has allegedly committed 'sati' by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband in a Bihar village, though officials Sunday said a police report on the incident was awaited. "
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1500612.cms

"Banda (UP), May 26 A 70-year-old woman ended her life allegedly by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband at Bahundari village, 60 km from here.

The incident came to light when hundreds of people thronged the site of her funeral to offer flowers, coconut and incense sticks as part of "sati puja", police said"
http://www.centralchronicle.com/20050527/2705003.htm

"Summary: A woman has burned herself alive on the funeral pyre of her dead husband in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, committing the sacred but outlawed Hindu practice of 'sati'. This report from: Adam Mynott"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/news/words/general/020807_witn.shtml

"Rukiya Devi (80) of village Shakardiha under the Hasanpur police station of the district allegedly committed “sati” by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband on Wednesday night, her son and villagers said on Thursday. "
http://www1.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/568988.cms

Now, it seems like most Nepali news sites just have terrible search features. I can't find any articles about Sati in Nepal. It exists, trust me.

"America may not be a christian nation, but those who did were christians... "

Yes, of course. But Christianity is not being imposed on everybody else, is it? In Nepal's case, Nepal was a Hindu kingdom just a couple of days ago. I am an atheist. Your potshots at Christianity don't bother me.

"When did I say it was not a part of the religion??? All i'm saying is, the system was purely based on profession"

The system was not based on profession. The system was based on race. Your profession came with your race.

thanks for the details KNT... It's sad to know that some people do commit sati as of today too... But nowhere does it say that it was *imposed* on those women like you have been insisting.. If they did it thinking it was a part of the religion, then it's the fault of their ignorance and if they did that because they didn't wanna live without their husbands, it was because of their blindfolded love .. Either way, it's not the religion to be blamed for...

I know "my potshot at christianity" didn't bother you, because it was not meant for that.. I just put that as an example to let you know that such bad traditions were deep rooted in many socities and not just Hinduism....

Whatever it is ...MOST OF US DEEP INSIDE BELIEVE THIS PROCLAMATION IS A FIRST MOVE TOWARDS GLOBAL MOVE...TOWARDS CIVILISATION.RELEGION IS JUST A BELIEF......THEIR SHOULD BE NO BARRIERS.THE BARRIER HAD TO GO SOONER OR LATER ESP AT THIS AGE OF GLOBALISATION.
AFTER GENERATIONS OF CIVILISATION ,THERE WILL BE REVOLUTIONARY DAYS WHERE ALL THE BARRIERS...BE IT RELIGIONS...RACES ...COLOUR WILL SLOWLY DESOLVE AND DISAPPEAR.EVERYONE WILL LOOK THE SAME AND FEEL THE SAME AND ALSO TALK THE SAME.
WELL THE PROCLAMATION WAS JUST A INEVITABLE DEMAND OF THE CURRENT TIME....A MOVE TOWARDS MODERN DEMOCRATIC WORLD.

MAY LOOK SCARY AND CONFLICTING IN THE SHORT RUN..WILL BENEFIT ALL IN THE LONG RUN.

Even if it wasn't imposed on them, the fact remains that these women who commit Sati are all Hindus.
Just so you know, I come from a Hindu family. So don't take this as an attack on Hinduism.

TAGGING ONE COUNTRY AS HINDU, MUSLIM OR CHRISTIAN IS AN OLD CONCEPT.THIS IS DISAPPEARING AND HAS TO DISAPPEAR AROUND THE WORLD . THE TREND IS TWD GLOBALISTION......AND GLADLY NEPALESE PEOPLE HAVE FINALLY ACCEPTED THAT..IF WE DONT FOLLOW THIS TREND....WAR AND DIVISIONS(MORE SEEN IN THE ORTHODOX OLD DAYS ) IS INEVITABLE.
THE DIFFERENCES HAS TO GO AWAY FROM THIS WORLD....SLOWLY BUT BOLDLY....WITHOUT FEARING TOO MUCH ON THE SHORT TERM CONSEQUENCES

That's because it was once a very integral part of our tradition and from what I read today, it still is (though not that important)... I don't mistake tradition for religion, so I stick by the belief that a religion should not be blasphemed on the basis of its few bad followers.... It's the people; those *Hindus* that commited or still commit such sins, so fingers should be pointed at them and not at the entire religion..

I agree with Mokshya.

I do not know a single person who can describe and define sanatan Dharma. If anyone here claims to know about vedic philosophy in totality (ie hinduism) i feel sorry for them.

some say this is hinduism ; some say that is hinduism : i say what is not hinduism? i again say what is hinduism?

what doesnot belong to hinduism? what belongs to hinduism? and who the fu(k is anyone to determine that? there is no founder and no governing doctrine that dictates sanatan dharma. vedic philosophy is as vast as the universe. seers and sages have spent all their lives searching for the ultimate truth and haven't found it in totality.
if someone claim to define hinduism i would be more than willing to know about it
