guys,

Dont go on rampage after christianity only? Few missionaries are good but most of them are for the motives of Conversion only. You Know guys--Islam is also on the same trend but not in full swing as compared to Christainity.

I have the information since few years back that religious moslem organisations from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Mainly rich muslim countries are pumping huge amount of money to built madarasa, Mosques outside of nepal to flourish the Islam. Mainly the money came here is donation from the rich and Muslim religious organisations.

I have read about it some time back in one of the popular newspaper. Many mosques built around Terai regions and swift increase in the population of Muslim lot are testimony to it. Time is not far away to witness the muslim extremist activities in the path to destabilisation of nepal if such trend goes on and on. Lets hope it wont happen here like India.

Thousands protest against Parliament's move to declare Nepal a secular state

Call for restoration of Hindu kingdom

The Associated Press (apwire) Published on 2006-05-24 18:05 (KST)

Thousands of Hindus protested in a southern town Wednesday against the Parliament's move to declare Nepal a secular state when it scaled back the king's powers, officials said.

The protesters rallied in the town of Birgunj, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of the capital Katmandu, burning newspapers and forcing markets and shops to close, said Bhim Tiwari, a government administrator in the area.

''We want a Hindu kingdom! Declare Nepal a Hindu kingdom!'' chanted the protesters as they marched through the main streets of the town near the border with India.

The protesters burned tires and blocked key streets and highways, stalling traffic. Tiwari said police were trying to keep control and reopen some of the roads.

The protesters also burned 2,000 copies of Kantipur, the country's largest newspaper which recently published an editorial supporting Parliament's moves, according to Sujit Mahat, a reporter with the paper.

A resolution passed by Parliament on Thursday included a clause that said Nepal would no longer be formally known as a Hindu country.

Nepal's constitution, written in 1990, declared the Himalayan nation a Hindu kingdom and more than 85 percent of the country's 27 million people are Hindus.

This discussion is futile. Nepal is never going to be a hindu state again. personally i don't know if a secular state means more religious intolerance or more religious harmony. I think Nepal is progressing towards a good future. in order to make sure that sanatana dharma remains in its pristine conditions hindus need to work on actively campaigning against racial and caste differences. The essence of sanatan dharma is secular itself so secularism is a part of hinduism.

i am waiting for that day when swami Prapannacharya (a kirati) becomes the head priest of pashupatinath temple. i am waiting for that day very anxiously

The Maoists should take care of those few so called "Hindu Nationalists". They were dead scared to speak out in the Maoist country after the Maoists took care of few of so called "Hindu Pandits" in the last few years.

As the caste battle within Hinduism there is difference between Roman Catholic, Protestant; Sia and Sunni. So, all religions have their own positive and negative points. Hinduism definitely is one of the most peaceful religion in this world. Go to Afganisthan and start pointing fingers on their religious ways and you will see.

Of course, Bajaranga Daal and Shiva Shakti Sena are the ones, I don't say they are correct. But why are you all pointing fingers on Hinduism rather than giving plus points of secularism? There are people who will understand the benefits also.

What's the big deal that the state is now secular, it's not like they are banning the hindu religion. Nepal is still going to be majority hindu nation. So all that protesting is waste of time and dangerous for the nation.

The main ppl behind the protests are "Dhotis" and they don't have any business getting involved in our country. They wan't to create a religous battle in Nepal, so the king can be in power again. While fellow Neplese brothers and sisters were dying in the street they were celebrating in Birgunj. The irony is that these ppl are using innocent people for the sake of power. Everyone knows they don't really care about the religion or the people. Like ppl mentioned earlier, if the king is so religious why is serving "Beef" in his hotels?
All the procalmation does is that it gives everyone in Nepal the religious freedom they deserve.

Since when did India become a role-model for anything? India is a sewer. If we are to follow a pathetic country like India, what does that tell us about ourselves?

Khaobaadi dude, well only largest population in a sample doesn't make it stronger, it is the percentage that makes a majority. First make your crappy knowledge about statistics clearer. Crap!!
And by the way who is talking about making India or even Nepal a "Hindu Nation" again? I am discussing here if the action of SPA would be benefitial or not.

Kalki
i do not think i contradicted myself. vedic philosophy itself is contradictory that is why it is inclusive and tolerant. and exclusive and intolerant at the same time.
Bhimkaya ganesh ko musa cha bahan
mihenat gari sumeru tin patak ghumne kumar ko kasaile lincha naam?
life is full of contradiction.
anyways i am less concerned with nepal being secular or hindu than overall decline of vedic culture and philosophy which in my opinion is the world's greatest philosophy.

To all hindu hater and against hindu nation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
U SAY WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE AND I SAY WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE??

what is the difference if hindu's expolited poor(as u say) so does christians ,muslim and others?
what is the difference if what they did by declaring hindu state undemocratically and so did SPA did undemocatically?

the bottom line is: Changing name tag doesn't change anything. So should i accept changing the nepal's name tag from hindu to secular state. why should i lose my heritage and name thats been there for 50 years just because one fine day one idiot jumps in and say we need too.what is the actual change.

just by putting peon a name tag of PM doesn't make him PM. like that a putting secular tag doesn't make it unsecular so why put it???

one day one donkey like parcchanda will come and say " we want no body to worship any god" would u accept it?

if there is no social change and there is no actual democracy then why change ???people who believe that there will be social revolution and now poor are going to get actual previleges .sorry to say that poor will remain poor. country like us where there is so many poor what is nepal looking at it political leaders.

There is no change ?same old corrupts in powers.so , i deny to change.I deny to accept country as secular state ,personally.Same old cheap politics..Same old leaders..same old
rich being rich poor being exploited .what is so damn issue about religion that has to be brought up by SPA?just because...poor where being exploited as if SPA gives rats ass to poors..

bathroom coffee....i don't know man u are just one angry man..all the others who spoke
speaks with logic , reasoning and some sense though i and all others in suppot of hindu state give equally good reasoning.but ur threads are full of anger ,less of reasonings.i have observed other threads too.
karamapa loves to bash hindu religion social evil as if all other religion has no social evils.vottee is liberal man.pat offended me i had to offend him.but they do write good though..they are dreamers.. dreaming that world will change ..nepal will change.. nothing wrong with that.dream as much u like .when u wake up u will see what is going on in earth.

hey if few hindus in pakistan ask for secular , would they give it???just bringing unnecessary sensitive issue by leaders with no brain and vision is big mistake that will backfire..

Imi, why do you keep bringing Pakistan’s example to support the Hindu State? It is irrelevant here since we are not talking about Pakistan and 51 other Islamic states. We are talking about Nepal and Hinduism.

I strongly believe that secular Nepal will help Hinduism. Religions evolve with time. Hinduism also evolved with time and that is why it still exists after 5,000 years. There was a time of Vedas, then came Puranas. When Hinduism was threatened by Buddhism at one point, Hinduism actually adopted some points from Buddhism and so Hinduism flourished. However, lately Hindus have become lazy and have stopped evolving. If the State keeps on protecting Hinduism, and banning conversions, then Hinduism will have no overt challenges and will not reform. If Hinduism does not reform, then people will be apathetic, and the marginalized Hindus will convert to other religions. And I do not blame them. If Hinduism discriminated me, I would change too and you would too. In the mean time, missionary works go on under the radar because of the ban. The government should have no business in it's citizen's religions and even if it wanted, it would not be able to keep track of missionary work.

So if I was a devout Hindu and I would want Hinduism to flourish, I would say go ahead with the Secularism. At least then, all the missionary work will be in open. Hinduism will see the challenge from other religion and there will be more public pressure for Hindu priests (not just Pashupatinath, but others as well) will have real incentive to put the money in charity. Also, High caste Hindus will be forced to treat the lower castes better. Devout Hindus will have to be more inclusive and will have to follow the preaching instead of just doing puja path.

I think it is better for Nepal to be secular and Nepalis to reform Hinduism rather than Nepal to be a Hindu State while the religion decays from inside due to the lack of reform.

Fundamentalist Hindus (mostly Indians) have problem with a secular Nepal. But majority of Nepalis are moderate Hindus. High Caste Hindus make only 30% of Nepali population. So all these fear tactics from fundamentalists will not work in Nepal.

how do you know ?how do u know fear won't work? how do u know the religion based parties won't come to stage?we have already started seeing signs.I don't know why ur analysis is so wrong .U just don't seem to understand nepalese mentality ? U are not hindu and claiming it will benefit hindu and trying to play good man .may be ur good man and thinking good. But i tell u ,ur dreamer .Come down to earth in reality .

Now christian missionaries will be more active resulting more hate towards other religion in remaining hindus.Alienating 80-90% hindu for 15-20% other was big freaking big mistake and no matter what u say u can't convince me onthat. U seem educated and democratic and yet u want undemocratic means to prove u r point. Lets have refrendum or CA decide.U just don't seem to see the future .if u are playing or u r intention is nice i respect u r positive attiude.I am not going to admit that it was good political move for bettement of nepal.Poor will suffer ultimately if u think this is done for better ment of poor.I just don't believe hindus will benefit from this at all.Pat thanks not being hindu but thinking about betterment of hindu in nepal.U r anaylsis is just so not practical.

please answer these question
do u want secular or peace?
are u democatic or undemocatic?

one thing ur right is nepal was liberal hindus that soon will change .It is bound to change .Even a kid can tell but u being such a intellect can't see.

yes hinduism needs reform but can be done in other ways ..there is social evils in all religion and i don't think u can deny that.this method is simply unacceptable

Imi,

I support testing this issue in the CA election. That is the democratic way and the right way. Howevever, I am waiting for the time of campaigning during the CA election for the Hindu State. What will a high caste priest tell a lower caste? "You are not allowed to enter my house, or temple, but please vote for a Hindu state?" Isn't that ironical?

If you look at ethnic demography of Nepal in Wikepedia, Brahmins and Chettris (benefitted by Hindu Religion) consists of 28%. The rest of the 72% consists of janajatis, dalits, non-Hindus. According to census 80% are Hindus but I am not sure how accurate this figure is. Also, I am not sure if all the Janajatis are serious Hindus and if all the Dalits will support the Hindu State. So Imi, you may get a lot less than 80% support for the Hindu state.

If you turn fundamentalist, even the moderate Hindus will not support the Hindu State.

See Pat the thing is Higher caste hindus have been realizing this .We will see what they campaign for but let there be campaign for and against it .This is democatic way to go.
Moderate hindu won't support me or fundamentalist????huh.. we are moderate hindus .. we respect other religion but just so u know why was the need of this ..that is why i am saying most of moderate hindus will support hindu nation..

let me give u an example , u say janajati people and matbali is are not respected in hindu.Man our god is called KIRATESHOWOR mahadev .so u think we don't respect kirat and limbu and gurungs ????????????

well even if we get 10% support for hindu state which is very unlikely .i challege that to refrendum.Be democratic.let there be vote.
BOM BHOLE ..MURKHA NETA R EENKA SUPPORTER HARU LAI BUDHI DEU..

TRUST ME THIS WILL BE CHALLENGED IN THE SUPREME COURT AND LET ME TELL SINCE THESE SPA LEADERS ARE SO GOOD PUTTING THERE MEN IN POLICE, ARMY,CIVIL SERVICE (in unique democratic ways) .UNLESS THEY HAVE THERE OWN JUDGE .THIS ISSUE BOUND TO GO TO REFRENDUM..but i am not sure will there be justice in unjust democratic country of nepal.where SPA is above the law ,before king was no there are what is the change PAT. What is the change???What is the difference??u have no idea how politics work in nepal .Poor is going to remain poor whatever u say i am not going to admit it even when maoist comes dalit will be dalit. The only people who can uplift them in the society is hindu .Because its there society not christian missionaries.don't even get me started on them..
